Jacob Himes, born March 25, 1829 and Catherine Linn born Oct 1
0, 1833 were married in 1853 in Mont County. She was the daughter of James Washington and Mahala Cassell Linn who came to Walnut Twp, Montgomery County in 1837. Jacob was the son of Daniel, Sr and Mary Wrightsman Himes. Jacob & Catherine's daughter Mary Ellen was born Oct 4, 1853. Cathereine Linn Himes died March 1854. Jan 11, 1855 Jacob married Catherine Kessler, born April 28, 1834 daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Graybill Kessler. Although farming was his business Jacob was also a skilled carpetner and built a fine home SW of Whitesville. A long lane gave access to their home that sat back off the road. He constructed barns and other dwelling in area. Jacob HImes built the oiginal Edgar Manges house which was similar to Jacob's and WiIlliam Asa Linn built the barn. It was located on the first road west of Whitesville, and both houses remain. Catherine Kessler Himes raised Mary Ellen and five sons she and Jacob had. Each son married at maturity they are: John Nov 6, 1855- June 14, 1933, married Laura Zimmerman 1866-1887. She died & Jhn mar ried Lizzie Frame 18583-1936, their son was Mark (May 18, 1892 died Apirl 1945). Nathaniel Benjamin Oct 17, 1859 died Sept 19, 1934 married Elizabeth Thompson in 1883 she died 1935. Their children were Gertie 1895-1889 (sic 1989?) and Ethel born 1896. Meade Himes born Aug 2, 1863 died May ? married Alice Luster 1866-1942, their children: Ernest 1895-1900 also Ralph born Feb 22 1899 and Lawrence born Oct 30, 1902 his twin sister died in 1902. George May 29, 1865 died Sept 27, 1936 marr Feb 6, 1890 Alice Graybill Jan 3, 1872 - Nov 8, 1900. Alice and baby were buried together at Harshbarger Cem. Their sons were: Lester Dec 7 1890 - Sept 16, 19 85 married Zola McMullin Oct 1894 died 1973 and Chester Dec 14, 1893 - died Jan 31, 1982 married Ruby Ann Linn Nov 13, 1897 died july 27, 1948. After Alice died Goerge himes married Clara Oliver 1867-1952 on April 29, 19 03. Their children: Ruth born Nov 29, 1904 and Merle born Sept 9, 1906. Perry born Oct 19, 1873 and died Jan 23, 1939 married Mabel White (Oct 3 1, 1882 - Nov 3, 1930 - their children are Norma born June 12, 1904; Audrey born Nov 5, 1906 Eliz born Dec 26, 1909 died Sept 1984, Amy born May 2 9, 1911, Edna Jan 19, 1913 and Robert Nov 12, 1917. The first daughter of Jacob Himes, Mary Elen married Benjamin Dickerson they had: William born Jan 24, 1 873 and Jane. Alice, John and Goerge. Catherine Kessler HImes (pic) was a Christian in the highest accepti on of them and she lived this way in her daily life. she was devoted to h er family. Her sons engaged in farming and lived useful lives and were res pected by all that knew them and their families. Catherine age 82 died Se pt 21, 1916 and was survived by her sons, 3 brothers, David Kessler, Sol Kessler, Jacob Kessler and 3 sisters, Mary Kesller Nees Ruth Kessler Thompson and Nancy Kessler Manges.
